BBS GRAIN CONFERENCE 2024

Balkans & Black Sea Grain Conference 2024 brought together exporters, traders, logistics companies, and agribusiness professionals in Istanbul. The forum once again confirmed its role as a practical platform for international grain trade discussions across the Black Sea and Balkans region.

Market talks at the event reflected the lasting importance of Black Sea wheat as a global benchmark. Russia, Ukraine, Romania, and Bulgaria together account for a major share of world wheat exports, so logistics, freight, and regional competitiveness remained central topics for participants.

Romania was discussed as one of the EU’s key grain exporters — even under climate pressure. In 2024 the country faced a severe drought, which made resilient supply chains and grain logistics especially relevant for exporters and buyers working through the Black Sea corridor.

Demand from Africa and the Middle East also shaped the agenda. Egypt remains the world’s largest wheat importer, while countries such as Tunisia stay heavily dependent on imported wheat and corn — with Black Sea origins among the core supply sources. Türkiye, as host market, continued to balance support for local producers with stable food supply and price control.
